1 | One example of loosing salvation NT | Luke 8:13 | John Reformed | 88980
Dear Tim Hines, I have no doubt that there are many people who go to church every Sunday and who are considered pillars of the community. They may have been raised in christian homes or not. They very well might have begun coming to church because of problems they were experiencing. It is likely that problems such as gambling, drunkeness, adultery and the like, were relieved as a direct result of the influence of hearing God's Word preached plus being around godly folks and recieving pastoral counsel. These same people may have confessed Jesus as Lord and try to be as good as they possibly can be. They have heard the gospel, gone to Bible studies, done good works, and, for the most part, escaped the defilements of the world. Their problem is that they have not been born again! Heck! People can become mormans or Jehovah witnesses and have their rowdy lifestyles changed. Mark 7:6 And He said to them, "Rightly did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written: 'THIS PEOPLE HONORS ME WITH THEIR LIPS, BUT THEIR HEART IS FAR AWAY FROM ME. Therefore, it is very likely that these are the folks that Peter is speaking of. KNOWLEDGE SAVES NO ONE! "For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world by the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and are overcome, he last state has become worse for them than the first." Many people have found church membership alone to be an asset in living decent lives (by worldly standards). But living decently saves no one! For many years I was a rip-roaring drunk. I went to AA and my life was changed dramatically. My family came back, I got a job, I helped other drunks to stay sober and was certain that God would let me into heaven based on my works. I am certain that many church-goers feel the same way I did. BUT, if they become dis-enchanted with religion...they become ardent enemys of the church and wind up on websites such as ex-chistians.org In the long haul they are worse off than they were in the beginning. This makes all the sense in the world to me. I've seen it in Scripture and I've seen it in life. The alternative is to believe that the Good Shepherd is not able to keep His flock from willfully running off a cliff! John |

2 | One example of loosing salvation NT | Luke 8:13 | New Creature | 89297
John In 2 Pet 2:20-22 I notice especially in verse 22 it says; "But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire." Notice what the text says about these mentioned sows; the sow was (past tense) washed" Does not "wash" mean to have been made clean? If that is the case, and I believe it is then, I don't see how we can describe those mentioned in 2 Pet 2 as mere professors or pretenders. In His service New Creature In His service New Creature |
