1 | One example of loosing salvation NT | Luke 8:13 | John Reformed | 88897 | ||
"So, is it possible to having once tasted the grace of God to actually chose to turn back and not merely backslide..but to go to enemy camp against God? God knows!" Dear gracefull, 2 Pet 1:21 for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God. When one becomes a christian, it is because He has recieved a revelation from God. Which is that Jesus is the Christ, The Son of the Living God. Just as the prophets of old could not forbear speaking the words which God had given them to speak, It is God Himself who caused us to believe and to confess this HOLY truth! 16:15-17 He *said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." And Jesus said to him, "Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. Those who believe that it was the proper exercise of the human will that allowed them to enter the eternal kingdom of God, must believe it is will power that permits them to remain in it. I guess that they might complain in heaven because they have deprived the ability to freely sin! John 1:13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. OK. The Bible says that we are born again by "the will of God". Then, what makes you believe we can be "un-born again" by the mis-use of man's will? Eph 2:10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them. WE are HIS workmanship!!! HE is the POTTER, WE are the clay!!! Can't you see it? We are secure because we trust in our position in Him as members of His body. Even now God is working in usto fashion us as vessels of honor. With His powerfull and skilled hands He molds and shapes us, more each day, into little christs. Can the clay say to the potter, why did you make me like this? Sorry, if I have gotten a bit emotional, but it is at times difficult to get one's point across and I forget that I'm but dust awaiting glory. John |

"Can't you see it? We are secure because we trust in our position in Him as members of His body. Even now God is working in usto fashion us as vessels of honor. With His powerfull and skilled hands He molds and shapes us, more each day, into little christs. Can the clay say to the potter, why did you make me like this?" Two points...I understand from your belief that one must be eternally secure as he had nothing to do with his salvation in the first place. Secondly, I agree that anyone who holds fast to their faith in the provision of salvation through the blood of Jesus Christ despite the ups and downs of their walk, will remain in His protection. I have heard preachers who believe if you backslide you have to be 'saved' again and I know this is fallacy because one can't be 'saved again'. But based on the scriptural content of 1 Peter, I am not sure one can't 20 For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world by the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and are overcome, he last state has become worse for them than the first. 21 For it would be better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn away from the holy commandment handed on to them." The QUESTION and as believers contending for the faith...based on my previous post, what is the correct place for these verses in your belief system of eternal security? These scripture are not stating that these were not ones who had received the revelation or 'knowledge of Jesus' and HAD ESCAPED....I do not believe in light of these verses one can conclude these were not saved..thus the phrase 'difficult verses' have been applied to them. I would like any and all comments on these verses, rather than dismissing them because they do not seem to fit our theology..As a Bible study forum we need to become willing to lay asside our theology and remain open and teachable by the Holy Spirit. I WONDER IF... They are believers who live a tortured and convicted life of disobedience,(thus the statement their last condition being worse than their first) possibly holding to faith in Jesus as saviour but not allowing or submitting to Him as Lord? Dear Tim Hines, I have no doubt that there are many people who go to church every Sunday and who are considered pillars of the community. They may have been raised in christian homes or not. They very well might have begun coming to church because of problems they were experiencing. It is likely that problems such as gambling, drunkeness, adultery and the like, were relieved as a direct result of the influence of hearing God's Word preached plus being around godly folks and recieving pastoral counsel. These same people may have confessed Jesus as Lord and try to be as good as they possibly can be. They have heard the gospel, gone to Bible studies, done good works, and, for the most part, escaped the defilements of the world. Their problem is that they have not been born again! Heck! People can become mormans or Jehovah witnesses and have their rowdy lifestyles changed. Mark 7:6 And He said to them, "Rightly did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written: 'THIS PEOPLE HONORS ME WITH THEIR LIPS, BUT THEIR HEART IS FAR AWAY FROM ME. Therefore, it is very likely that these are the folks that Peter is speaking of. KNOWLEDGE SAVES NO ONE! "For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world by the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and are overcome, he last state has become worse for them than the first." Many people have found church membership alone to be an asset in living decent lives (by worldly standards). But living decently saves no one! For many years I was a rip-roaring drunk. I went to AA and my life was changed dramatically. My family came back, I got a job, I helped other drunks to stay sober and was certain that God would let me into heaven based on my works. I am certain that many church-goers feel the same way I did. BUT, if they become dis-enchanted with religion...they become ardent enemys of the church and wind up on websites such as ex-chistians.org In the long haul they are worse off than they were in the beginning. This makes all the sense in the world to me. I've seen it in Scripture and I've seen it in life. The alternative is to believe that the Good Shepherd is not able to keep His flock from willfully running off a cliff! John |

Hi John, I did a quick word search wor the word 'knowledge' because these verses seem to hinge on whether these people understood as a 'religion' and simply acted correctly. Strong's #1108 1.Knowledge signifies in general intelligence, understanding. a. the general knowledge of Christian religion. b. the deeper more perfect and enlarged knowledge of this religion such as what belongs to the more advanced. c. esp. of the things lawful and unlawful for Christians. d. moral wisdom, such as is seen in right living. Example: 2 Peter 1:5,6 5 Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge, 6 and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness, 2 Peter 3:18 This sounds a lot like the interpretation being given for this exortation by Peter in chapter 2. However, understanding in 2 Peter 2:20 is Strong's #1922 Precise and correct knowledge as used in the NT of the knowledge of things ethical and divine. Other exxamples of this usage is 2 Peter 1:2,32 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; 3 seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. 2 Peter 1:8 Comments?
