Hank:I agree with you about backsliding does not mean losing our salvation. Having grown up in the early 1950's the term "backsliden" was often used in the Baptist churches I grew up in. I have never related the word with losing salvation, backsliding was the term only for those who had become carnal. This has been my experience, and perhaps others have had a different understanding. The word Trinity is found no where in the New Testament either, however we do have the proof for using the word. I have related the word backsliding to Peter in Matthew 26:69 to 75, Luke 22:31,32. Also in I Timothy 5:15 refers to turrning to satan. In Revelation 2:4 there it refers to turning from our first love. Living in a carnal state, is to my understanding, to be considered to be "backsliden". I am not tring to split hairs, but I have just never considered or related "Backsliding" as in the same contex of losing ones salvation. Maybe, as I stated it is a term used differently from one group to another. So, I am saying, I am not quite so sure we should slash "backsliding", anymore than the word Trinity, and others that have simular meanings for words mmentioned in the Bible. I hope this gives you some more thought about slashing words. I mean this with no disrespect, only in pure brotherly love. agape. justme |

2 | Not my will? | Rom 5:6 | Hank | 59299
Justme, the problem with using the word 'backslide' lies, it seems to me, in the fact that it does such a poor job of expressing with definity what we are talking about. To some it means "losing salvation" and to others it means straying from a close walk with the Lord by allowing things of the world to intervene. It is on account of this word's lack of precision of definition that led me to suggest abandonment of usage and to favor other, more precise words to carry the message of what we actually have in mind when we say 'backslide.' The word Trinity, on the other hand, is more precise and the concept inherent in the word is, I think, far less vulnerable to misunderstanding than is backslide. --Hank
3 | Not my will? | Rom 5:6 | justme | 59409
Hank: I think carnal fits the bill pretty well. However, I seldom hear that word used. Carnal is for sure Biblical, and in context understood by more, than other words. How is you heart, now that you are wired for super charge. I sincerely remember you in prayer. To answer you, my knee had a week of relief. Now the sever ache keeeps me awake at night. I see the Doctor tommrow, again. I am hoping this is part of the healing that takes 6 weeks. agape, justme |

Justme, and other friends of the forum: I'm ever so grateful to God for His providence during the traumatic and frightening hours of severe heart problems, to the medical staff who so ably ministered to me, and to the kindness and prayers of family and friends, including you on the forum, whose concerns and care brought hope and comfort and light to a dark hour. Recovery is gradual, and that is expected, but all in all it is coming about and the prognosis is good. And to you, justme, I extend every good wish and offer prayers for your healing. May God richly bless you and all members of this forum. --Hank

7 | Not my will? | Rom 5:6 | Sir Pent | 59511
Personal Note....................................... Dear Hank, Thanks you for the welcome back and especially for your empathy in my wife and my loss. Sadly, I had to go back and update my user profile since I was here last to reflect that we have lost one more child. We have really had to depend on the prayer and support of our relatives, friends, and church family during this time. We have both felt that God has used these tragic circumstances to draw us even closer to Himself and to each other. I would not wish this experience on anyone, but God works all things together for good. |
