Bible Note: Justme, the problem with using the word 'backslide' lies, it seems to me, in the fact that it does such a poor job of expressing with definity what we are talking about. To some it means "losing salvation" and to others it means straying from a close walk with the Lord by allowing things of the world to intervene. It is on account of this word's lack of precision of definition that led me to suggest abandonment of usage and to favor other, more precise words to carry the message of what we actually have in mind when we say 'backslide.' The word Trinity, on the other hand, is more precise and the concept inherent in the word is, I think, far less vulnerable to misunderstanding than is backslide. --Hank |
