1 | Christ dying only for elect? | Rom 5:6 | homer7000 | 5455
Can you give me specific verses concerning "Christ dyeing only for the elect"?
2 | Christ dying only for elect? | Rom 5:6 | Radioman | 5544
This question, election, has already been much debated on this Forum, much to everyone's delight. If you use the Search function and after "contain these words" put "election", then you will have access to the Forum's accumulated wisdom concerning the subject.
3 | Christ dying only for elect? | Rom 5:6 | homer7000 | 5556
My question wasn't concerning election but other verses in Scripture that state directly that Christ died only for the elect. I believe this true and wasn't attempting an argument on this subject. Scripture other than Jn. 10:11 and Eph. 5:25. That's all. Someone else started all the other.
4 | Christ dying only for elect? | Rom 5:6 | Makarios | 5564
Dear homer7000, I did not intend to argue with you nor did I want to get off the subject and onto the raging debate of 'election'.. I apologize if it appeared that way. However, I tried to answer your original question, "Did Christ die for just some people or all people" in the best way that I could. If Christ died for only the elect (which I have shown thoroughly that I disagree with that conclusion) then there is plenty of scripture to back that up (and to argue against my point of view).. If I was going to begin to gain an understanding of Christ dying for the elect only, then I would use: Matt. 1:21, 20:28, 26:28, John 10:15, Acts 20:28, Hebrews 9:28, and John 15:13 along with the two other verses that you mentioned to form a 'solid' scriptural base for your belief that Christ died only for the elect. See also Ephesians 1 and Romans 8:32-35 (NASB). John 17 could also be used in a way to support this idea. By using that scripture, then you could easily and persuasively argue for limited atonement.
5 | Christ dying only for elect? | Rom 5:6 | homer7000 | 5609
Then why not come to that conclusion?
6 | Christ dying only for elect? | Rom 5:6 | Makarios | 5675
BECAUSE THAT CONCLUSION IS WRONG! I have already shown to you and proven to you that your logic is flawed. Now I challenge you to refute what I have already written on this based on the scriptures that I gave you. You know that you can't, because you will not be speaking with the Truth if you do. I will not waste my time anymore with you if you decide to take this route. You cannot come up with any good reason to refute my reasoning for Scripture supporting unlimited atonement and you know it. It is wrong and flawed and I refuse to debate this any further with you if you are going to be divisive and seeking only to argue.
7 | Christ dying only for elect? | Rom 5:6 | homer7000 | 5697
It seems to me you have done a fair job in arguing your point. The scriptures you gave proving limited atonement were good. May our Father and the Spirit bear witness with you in these. No argument!
8 | Christ dying only for elect? | Rom 5:6 | jim | 6265
This one thing i know Christ dies and not willing that any should perish. God can call them elect because He knows the ending from the beginning. The elect could be Isreal could it not?
9 | Christ dying only for elect? | Rom 5:6 | kalos | 6266
Chosen for a fourfold mission. Jim: You ask: The elect could be Isreal could it not? Israel was indeed elect (chosen). But chosen for what? For what? When the word elect is used in the Bible, it is not in every case used in connection with salvation. "Israel, so named from the grandson of Abraham, was chosen for a fourfold mission: "(1) To witness to the unity of God in the midst of universal idolatry, Deuteronomy 6:4 ; Isaiah 43:10,12,. "(2) to illustrate to the nations the blessedness of serving the true God, Deuteronomy 33:26-29 ; 1 Chronicles 17:20,21 ; Psalms 144:15. "(3) to receive, preserve, and transmit the Scripture, Deuteronomy 4:5-8; Romans 3:1,2. "(4) to produce, as to His humanity, the Messiah, Genesis 3:15; 12:3; 22:18; 28:10-14; 49:10 ; 2 Samuel 7:12-16 ; Isaiah 7:14; 9:6; Matthew 1:1; Romans 1:3. According to the prophets, Israel, regathered from all nations, restored to her own land and converted, is yet to have her greatest earthly exaltation and glory. Zechariah 12:8." (Scofield, C.I.
