AMPLIFIED 2015 | Acts 2:38 And Peter said to them, "Repent [change your old way of thinking, turn from your sinful ways, accept and follow Jesus as the Messiah] and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ because of the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. |
Bible Question: Apparently the apostles baptized in the name of Jesus. Was this a revelation from the Holy Spirit after Jesus said in Matthew 28:19 to baptize in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit? |
Bible Answer: the bible states that there is but One God. and He is reveled in three Persons. These Persons are one in unity and essence. When Jesus said in Matt.28:19 to baptize in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, these were titles. In Acts 2:38, Peter baptized in the Name of Jesus. Now Jesus told us to baptized the Matt. 28:19 way, and Peter knew that. so that only explanation is it was in the authority of Jesus. as Christians we do everything in Jesus Name. We baptize in Jesus Name, we pray in Jesus Name, and what ever we do it is in Jesus Name. Jesus told us to do one thing and i believe that thats what they did in the early church, but in the authority of Jesus Name. |
