AMPLIFIED 2015 | Acts 2:38 And Peter said to them, "Repent [change your old way of thinking, turn from your sinful ways, accept and follow Jesus as the Messiah] and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ because of the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. |
Bible Question: Apparently the apostles baptized in the name of Jesus. Was this a revelation from the Holy Spirit after Jesus said in Matthew 28:19 to baptize in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit? |
Bible Answer: It seems to me that we should let scripture interpret scripture and if Jesus gave the command to baptize in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and then we see the example of the apostles baptizing in the name of Jesus then that must be what Jesus meant. That is the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The apostles were close to Jesus and understood Him to mean that otherwise it would have been written different. |
