Bible Note: Dear Charis, The very scripture you quote disagrees with what you say. first of all the Ephesians were saved in the book of Acts as were many of the Churches in the Epistles. For by grace you have been saved, meaning that God gave them the opportunity to be saved. Have been saved, reflects that they literally have been saved as I mentioned they were saved in the book of Acts. Through faith, means through their belief which led them to salvation. Not of yourselves, simply means not without God. I don't know why believers think that baptism and repentance etc. are works. If they are considered works so is belief. John 3:3,5,7 Jesus says we must be born again, born of the water and of the spirit to enter into the kingdom of God, marvel not that I say these things to you, you must be born again. Charis, does the Bible contradict itself? There are so many others I could quote, but I won't. Also I agree with you that there isn't an automatic infilling of the Holy Spirit when you are baptised. Just as I don't think scripture supports the belief that all believers have the Holy Spirit. In Rev. it says that we will be lifted by our spirit in the rapture. Any thoughts on this. And I agree with your statement about showy manifestations. I believe its either 1st or 2nd Chor. chpt. 14 that says when new people come into a church and they witness a number of the congragation speaking in tongues, they might think that they are mad. Are job is to witness, but witness with common sence! I'm not saying that tongues in church is wrong. It absolutely is not. However we that are spirit filled are not to speak in tongues just to edify ourselves. I've never heard of a church requiring tongues for membership. Thank you for getting me to think this morning. God Bless you Savannah |
