Bible Note: Greetings Johnny! The most basic arugment for the equality of God the Son and God the Father is that there is only one God. Therefore, if the Father is God and the Son is God, they by definition must be equal - since they are the same (see John 1:1). Further than that though are other passages - like Phil. 2:5-11. This passage clearly shows that Jesus possessed equality with God, but did not cling to it. Instead, He lowered Himself by taking on human nature. This is the explanation of the verses which you quoted and referred to - Jesus was submissive to the Father during His incarnation. So, during that time, Jesus could say that the Father was greater than He. By definition, since Jesus had a body, the Father was greater. However, that was not the case in the eternal past nor will it be the case in the eternal future. By nature, Jesus is the only God and in Him the fulness of God dwells bodily (Col. 2:9).
