AMPLIFIED 2015 | Acts 2:38 And Peter said to them, "Repent [change your old way of thinking, turn from your sinful ways, accept and follow Jesus as the Messiah] and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ because of the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. |
Bible Question: Apparently the apostles baptized in the name of Jesus. Was this a revelation from the Holy Spirit after Jesus said in Matthew 28:19 to baptize in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit? |
Bible Answer: Personally I do not see any schism or division here as is written in John: 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. 14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. 16 For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities-- all things have been created through Him and for Him. 20 and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven. I believe God’s interest is more in the “heart” than in all the sacraments, and elements, and rituals and rights and words-Rom. 10:10… for it are with your heart that you believe and are justified. I believe your inquiry is sincere and you truly desire to know but sadly I have seen division over this very issue and it is not Gods desire that we divide and wrangle over words. 2 Tim. 2:14 So, in answer to your question, no, I do not believe this is any “further” revelation from the Holy Spirit, both are biblical and both are right. Is one therefore “in the wrong” for being baptized in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit? Not according to Jesus. Is one therefore “in the wrong” for being baptized in the name of Jesus? Not according to the Word of God. I don’t see a further revelation and I don’t see a schism. |
