AMPLIFIED 2015 | Acts 2:38 And Peter said to them, "Repent [change your old way of thinking, turn from your sinful ways, accept and follow Jesus as the Messiah] and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ because of the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. |
Bible Question: Apparently the apostles baptized in the name of Jesus. Was this a revelation from the Holy Spirit after Jesus said in Matthew 28:19 to baptize in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit? |
Bible Answer: I always have to do a lot of searching to quote bible verses exactly, but I thought the John the Baptist said, I baptise in water, Jesus baptises in the holy spirit. So after Jesus left, the holy spirit was left on earth to help us through baptism, and we enter only into the presence of Jesus through the holy spirit in prayer and into Gods presence only through Jesus. So I thought that is why the apostles baptised in Jesus name and afterwards we baptise in the name of God the father, Jesus the son, and the holy spirit...the trinity. Even our first prayer and repentence is through the work of the holy spirit...we are invited though the holy spirit. sstro |
