1 | Jesus' name baptism? | Acts 2:38 | Morant61 | 38884
Greetings Hank! Coming from you my friend, I'll take that as a compliment! I think! :-) Razor soup - that's not made out of one of those ugly pigs is it? I agree with your perspective my friend. The only problem I've ever had with the "name of Jesus" position is that we are told that baptizing in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is somehow wrong, even though it is spelled out quite clearly in Mt. 28:19. Like you, I believe that it is obedience to the act itself which is important. I've even heard of missionaries who baptized in sand when water was not available. The details are not magical, it is the spiritual significance behind the act which is important. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Your Note: "we are no longer under the.... law" My reply to you: Are We Not Subject To The Law of God? Romans 3:31 (ESV) Do we then overthrow the law by this faith? By no means! On the contrary, we uphold the law. (Amplified) Do we then by [this] faith make the Law of no effect, overthrow it or make it a dead letter? Certainly not! On the contrary, we confirm and establish and uphold the Law. (GOD'S WORD version) Are we abolishing Moses' Teachings by this faith? That's unthinkable! Rather, we are supporting Moses' Teachings. (From "Not Subject To The Law of God?" Part 8. www.yashanet.com/library/under8.htm All following Scripture quotes are from the GOD'S WORD version of the Bible, unless otherwise noted.) "The teaching that 'we are free from the Torah,' is a product of hundreds of years of anti-Semitic theology and is in opposition to Scripture. The 'New Testament,' when put back into its Hebrew context, says this about the Torah and believers in Yeshua:" Matthew 5:17 "Don't ever think that I came to set aside Moses' Teachings or the Prophets. I didn't come to set them aside but to make them come true. James 2:10 If someone obeys all of God's laws except one, that person is guilty of breaking all of them. Matt 19:17 Jesus said to him, "Why do you ask me about what is good? There is only one who is good. If you want to enter into life, obey the commandments." Revelation 12:17 The serpent became angry with the woman. So it went away to fight with her other children, the ones who keep God's commands and hold on to the testimony of Jesus. John 14:15 "If you love me, you will obey my commandments. John 15:10 If you obey my commandments, you will live in my love. I have obeyed my Father's commandments, and in that way I live in his love. Romans 3:31 Are we abolishing Moses' Teachings by this faith? That's unthinkable! Rather, we are supporting Moses' Teachings. 1 John 2:3 We are sure that we know Christ if we obey his commandments. 2:4 The person who says, "I know him," but doesn't obey his commandments is a liar. The truth isn't in that person. 2:5 But whoever obeys what Christ says is the kind of person in whom God's love is perfected. That's how we know we are in Christ. 1 John 5:3 (Revised Standard Version) For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments (Greek: entole [Strong's #1785]: ethically used of the commandments in the Mosaic law). And his commandments (entole) are not burdensome. |

kalos, Good answer! The Church for some unknown reason has has elected to turn it's back on G*ds commandments. I don't know if it's because anti-Jewish theology crept in to the doctrine of the early church or what, but the result is disturbing to say the least. I have read several surveys that show that divorce, alcohol abuse, and other transgressions of G*ds commands are higher in the Church of all places, than in the world! Is it possible that we have gone overboard with the "Grace" doctrine ? (I believe in Grace) So many people say they love G*d, but refuse to obey him, go figure.
