What happened to 2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for instruction in rightousness:. If we begin to disect and take this word apart we may as well throw the whole thing in the garbage and believe however we want to. | ||||||

Greetings RevRobert! I see that Kalos has already responded, but I wanted to add a point in support of him. All Scripture is inspired, and both Kalos and I fully believe that it is! However, if I handed you a Bible with an extra verse written by me in the margin, would that verse be Scripture? That is exactly what happened with 1 John 5:7. The Textus Receptus is the only critical Greek text which includes 1 John 5:7. No other critical Greek text includes it and only 3 out of thousands of extant Greek texts includes it. These three are both late copies. I don't have any problem with the theology of 1 John 5:7. The same point is found in other Scriptures, but 1 John 5:7 appears to have been added to the Greek text sometime after the 12th century. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
