1 | Jesus' name baptism? | Acts 2:38 | Mommapbs | 48246 | ||
Greetings Kalos! This is a very old thread but I do have a question about this verse. So I'm putting it out there to some of the participants. The following is a statement from a denominational web site: "As with the first Christians, when a person repents and is baptized their sins are forgiven and the Holy Spirit begins to work in their life. (Acts 2:36-41; Romans 8:5-11)" I am troubled by this, not because I am an unbaptized believer, but because many who I know to be born again believers have not been immersed! It just doesn't "sit" with me that physical baptism is a prerequiste for forgiveness. Any comments? Blessings, Mommapbs |

The word water at John 3:5, has nothing to do with Baptism, it refers to amniotic fluid, and therefore physical birth, as opposed to Spiritual birth. In case there is any doubt as to what was intended to be undrestood, then verse 6 makes this clear, as it repeats verse 5, but uses the word flesh in place of water. Water Baptism follows Spiritual re-birth, it does not preceed it as is made clear at Acts 2:38, Please do not put the cart before the horse. |
