NASB | 1 Corinthians 2:14 ¶ But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 2:14 ¶ But the natural [unbelieving] man does not accept the things [the teachings and revelations] of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness [absurd and illogical] to him; and he is incapable of understanding them, because they are spiritually discerned and appreciated, [and he is unqualified to judge spiritual matters]. |
Subject: How can anyone be saved? |
Bible Note: Dear Sir Pent, one of the attractive things that I have noticed about your manners on this forum is that you have some! You have conducted yourself in a gentlemanly fashion with kindness and regard for your peers on the forum. Now I come to ask a favor of you, and not of you only, but of all other users who prize this forum and who seek its best interests. This thread on the Calvinist theme/debate has become one of the longest in the history of this forum. There have been many other long and drawn-out debates on Calvinism, the 5-Points, the TULIP. Nothing really new has been said on the subject in months. It's hash and re-hash, repetition stacked upon repetition. The handful of Calvinists on this forum are making of themselves a nuisance. They have the right, I suppose, if Lockman wants to permit it, to say their piece, and they have said it and said it and said it again -- and continue to say it. Search me, I don't know what drives them to persist so tenaciously and tendentiously without any apparent regard for other voices and other views, so I will make no attempt to inpugn their motives. I do not assail their motives and neither do I deny them equal rights to defend their faith. This is not the issue, Sir. The issue and the question born of the issue is this: Is it fair to all other users, a goodly number of whom are defintely not of the Calvinist camp, to aid and abet these hard-core soap boxers of that camp to dominate this forum day after day with their one-sided bias? And of them I also ask, Are you showing the proper concern and respect for this StudyBibleForum when you post and continue to post nothing but Calvinist-oriented material? There are a growing number of us who, quite frankly, are sick and tired of it and whose business it has become in the wake of these long and unending debates to bring this persistent and serious problem to the attention of the forum at large and of the Lockman Foundation as well. So, in closing Sir Pent, I respectfully ask for your cooperation and for the cooperation of other users in bringing this fruitless and endless debate to a rapid and peaceful closure so that the forum can function as a StudyBibleForum and not as a Calvinist Debate Forum. Thank you in advance for the careful consideration that I with full confidence believe you and your peers will give to this matter. --Hank |
