AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 2:14 ¶ But the natural [unbelieving] man does not accept the things [the teachings and revelations] of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness [absurd and illogical] to him; and he is incapable of understanding them, because they are spiritually discerned and appreciated, [and he is unqualified to judge spiritual matters]. |
Bible Question: How can anyone be saved? |
Bible Answer: John I vowed I would not get involved in this again, but. Your contending that a person has to be spiritually enlightened as described in this passage to receive salvation. I stopped what I was doing today and read 1Corinthians 2:14 with no intent or prejudices. I realized as I read it I this time I was reading as I usually do. As I have always read it. To me this is talking way past the salvation process. And is talking about us being under the tutorage of the Holy Spirit, we as spiritually dead human, take on a new awareness and understanding of the things of the Spirit. Paul is talking to save saints and saying you understand things now that were plain senseless to you before. Your contention is that before a person can be save he has to understand the spiritual realities that a saved person understands. This passage is not saying that, it is saying once we are saved we have the scales fall from our eyes and we understand things that were completely hidden to us before. I submit that for an unsaved person to come to salvation he has to understand he is in sin, needs salvation and seeks for a savior. Much like the example given us in Acts 2:37-41. You contend that is a spiritual awakening I on the other hand contend the process is sin consciousness. I believe there is a time in each persons life he becomes aware of his sin state. The decision he then makes determines his future. I know at the time of my own salvation I had no spiritual awareness I just knew I was in sin, the Bible said that sin leads to death and that Jesus was answer. It wasn’t until after I was saved that I understood God’s love for me, the blood covenant, grace, and things that were spiritually hidden to me before my salvation or at the time of my salvation. No my friend I do not think this verse is the hinge pin in the proof that God only elected some us to salvation. Again I fail to see why this one precept compared to the wholeness of the scriptures and of God is so important to you. What would you do differently if someone was able to prove to you God gives everyone a chance to accept or reject His grace? I know if the opposite were true the only effect on me would be the nagging question I thought God loved everyone. EdB |
