AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 2:14 ¶ But the natural [unbelieving] man does not accept the things [the teachings and revelations] of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness [absurd and illogical] to him; and he is incapable of understanding them, because they are spiritually discerned and appreciated, [and he is unqualified to judge spiritual matters]. |
Subject: How can anyone be saved? |
Bible Note: Dear Brother Cyclist, Have you ever noticed that christians (regardless of their theology) always pray after a certain fashion. Especially when praying for salvation of others: Oh God! Please Lord save my child (or husband or nieghbor or friend or whoever else.) We seem to know down deep in our hearts that salvation is of God. That it is in His hands. Although being born to christian parents or having a christian grandpa is not a guarantee that a child is among the elect, it gives us grounds to have great hope for our children. I fully expect all my children and grandchildren will come to know Jesus as their Lord and Saviour. The reason we baptize infants in my church is because we feel that baptism is the NT sign that was foreshadowed by the OT sign of circumcision. We do not believe that baptism saves anyone, but that it is an outward expression of membership in God's covenant. It is also an expression of the expectation of salvation that we have for our little ones. God our Father does not operate in a vacumn but He uses means by which His eternal plan is fulfilled. I believe that the tears and prayers of His people are heard in Heaven and that He delights in giving us good things. John MacArthur assures us: ... we can say that God has had a special love relationship with the elect from all eternity, and on the basis of that love relationship chosen them for salvation. The ultimate question of why God chose some for salvation and left others in their sinful state is one that we, with our finite knowledge, cannot answer. We do know that God's attributes always are in perfect harmony with each other, so that God's sovereignty will always operate in perfect harmony with His goodness, love, wisdom, and justice. Brother, I know you love and trust the Lord. Do you not trust Him to save your babies? Of course you do! I know you do! John |
