AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 2:14 ¶ But the natural [unbelieving] man does not accept the things [the teachings and revelations] of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness [absurd and illogical] to him; and he is incapable of understanding them, because they are spiritually discerned and appreciated, [and he is unqualified to judge spiritual matters]. |
Subject: How can anyone be saved? |
Bible Note: John , I would agree that we can do nothing to earn our initial justification and can add nothing to His "cross work." But with his grace we can enter into his work with Him. Jesus did call us to take up our crosses and follow Him: "he who does not take up his cross and follow me is not worthy of me," (Matt 10:38) and "If any man would come after me, let him take up his cross and follow me.." (Matt 16:24). We can work with Him as His co-workers: "In every thing God (sunergei eis agathon))WORKS FOR GOOD WITH those who love Him and are called according to his purpose. (Rom 8:28) and "WORKING TOGETHER WITH (sunergountes)Him, then, we entreat you not to accept the grace of God in vain" (2 Cor 6:1)And this is the kind of work, the work of God, which we can participate in after our unmerited justification, that Paul had no trouble "boasting" about, (Rom 5:3;5:11;5:11).
