NASB | 1 Corinthians 2:14 ¶ But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 2:14 ¶ But the natural [unbelieving] man does not accept the things [the teachings and revelations] of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness [absurd and illogical] to him; and he is incapable of understanding them, because they are spiritually discerned and appreciated, [and he is unqualified to judge spiritual matters]. |
Subject: How can anyone be saved? |
Bible Note: Hi Ed, Sorry about the mixup of names. I said: " Natural man is FREE to choose Christ (life) but DOES NOT HAVE THE ABILITY because he hates Christ!" You replied: "That is no choice at all the decision was made for you. That is like a parent saying you have a choice go with us or stay home now go get in the car." Your characterization of my position is unclear to me. It is like a parent (God) saying you (the sinner) have a choice, go with us (believe in Christ) or stay home (die in or sin) now get into the car (believe and be saved)....This is my understanding of your story. Where it breaks down is we don't know what happens next. Do the parents pick the boy up and stick him in the car and force him to go? or do they simply command him to get in the car but leave the final decision to him? If he is forced to go, it would not agree with my understanding of election. If he was left to follow his desire to stay home in spite of his parents wishes and commands, It would agree with my understanding of election. Which one is it? John |
