NASB | 1 Corinthians 2:14 ¶ But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 2:14 ¶ But the natural [unbelieving] man does not accept the things [the teachings and revelations] of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness [absurd and illogical] to him; and he is incapable of understanding them, because they are spiritually discerned and appreciated, [and he is unqualified to judge spiritual matters]. |
Subject: How can anyone be saved? |
Bible Note: Dear Cyclist, As you may have noticed, there are certain topics that are lightning rods. I guess what I am trying to do is to recieve input from those who do not regularly join in this debate and to defuse any resentment that may arise among those who are sick of my persistant(some may call it "bull-headed") pursuit of what I see as the Biblical truth of this most important topic. Because Election elicits strong emotions all around, the discussion of it has often produced more heat than light. If you look at some of my own posts, you will notice that I can be just as hotheaded as the next guy. I am not proud (so to speak) of some of my posts but at least they have a tendency to work humility in me. I really don't want to be found among those who are puffed up and without love, and whose only joy is to win a debate to their own glory. No! The fact is I love this doctrine, and desire to share with others that which I deeply believe to be the truth. The reason I posed it as question was to allow those who wish to explore the subject to do so freely. What are your thoughts Brother Cyclist? How does one reconcile 1 Cor 2:14 with free will choice regarding salvation? To God be the Glory, John |
