Hi John, "Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the *Spirit who is from God." This Spirit in 1 Corinthians 2:12 is the Spirit who indwells us as believers. Romans 8:11, "But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His *Spirit who indwells you." Romans 8:15, "For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, "Abba, Father!"" I have chosen the marginal alternate reading in the NASB because it shows the contrast between spirit of slavery and the Spirit of adoption as sons. The same contrast is in 1 Corinthians 2:12 between the spirit of the world and the Spirit who is from God. How can anyone be saved? The sons of God receive the Spirit of adoption as sons. But in contrast the unspiritual, natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God. When I studied 1 Corinthians 2:11,12 years ago, I compared it with Daniel 4:8,9. The NASB differs from the NKJ in the book of Daniel. For this particular comparison I went with the NKJ's capitalization. Daniel 4:8,9, "But finally Daniel came in before me, whose name is Belteshazzar according to the name of my god, and in whom is the Spirit of the Holy/God; and I related the dream to him, saying, O Belteshazzar, chief of the magicians, since I know that the *Spirit of the (Holy)God is in you and no mystery baffles you, tell me..." 1 Corinthians 2:11, "For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit/ of God. Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the *Spirit who is from (God), that we might know the things freely given to us by God, which things we also speak,..." Daniel did not have a spirit of the holy gods in him. We also have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit from God. He is dwelling in us and we should be filled with holy spirit. 1 Peter 4:6, "For the gospel has for this purpose been preached even to those who are dead, that though they are judged in the flesh as men, they may live in the *Spirit according to the will of (God)." Parentheses mine for comparison. From the heart, Ray |

Hi Ray, Your point (if I understand it correctly)is that there are those to whom God gives the Spirit. Does God give the Spirit to everyone or only to those that He chooses? John |

Hi John, I believe that it is the spirit which quickeneth as King James puts it. The spirit is the thing that gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words Jesus spoke are spirit and life. John 6:63. God gives the spirit. Now what kind of spirit are we of? Jesus told His disciples "You do not know what **kind of spirit you are of." Luke 9:55 1 Timothy 1:7, "For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and *love and discipline." 1 Thessalonians 1:4, NKJ "...knowing, beloved brethren, your election by (God). NASB,v5 For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power and in the *holy *spirit and with full conviction; just as you know what **kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake. You also became imitators of us and of the Lord, having received the word in much tribulation with the joy of the Holy Spirit,..." God has given us the Scriptures, His word, for all to read and when believed, to proclaim. John 8:46b, "If I speak truth, why do you not believe Me? He [he] who is of God hears the words of (God); for this reason you do not hear them, because you are not of God." 1 John 4:6, "We are from God, he who knows God listens to us; he who is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the *spirit of truth and the spirit of error. Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. The one who does not love does not know God, for God/ is love." 1 John 4:13, "By this we know that we abide in Him and He in us, because He has given us of His *spirit." 1 John 4:16, "And we have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God/ is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him." From the heart, Ray |

Good Morning Ray, God has given us the Scriptures, His word, for all to read and when believed, to proclaim. John 8:46b, "If I speak truth, why do you not believe Me? He [he] who is of God hears the words of (God); for this reason you do not hear them, because you are not of God." Great answer Ray! Thank you, John |
