Hi Mommapbs, I hope that you won't mind my talking capitalization with you again. I believe that the word that Jesus spoke in John 4:50 were spoken as a Man (and not just as a man). In that sense they were words of "Truth". But the word truth is very difficult to be consistent with in capitalization. For instance in comparing John 4:24 and your choice of "spirit and Truth" with John 15:26: there it speaks of the Spirit of truth. So that is one reason why I would choose "worship in Spirit and truth for John 4:24. Plus, I like the "word picture" of worshiping Him being surrounded by Spirit. John 4:24, "(God) is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in Spirit and truth." [Spirit-worship Him-Spirit]. Verse 25 talks of the fact that (He) will declare all things to us. These things are the things of truth. John 16:7, "But (I) tell you the truth,...v.12, I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. But when He, the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth..." That having been said, I also would believe with you if you write that Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. I am simply saying that we have to compare Scripture with Scripture, spiritual thoughts with spiritual words. John 16:8, "And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin, and righteousness, and judgment; concerning sin, because they do not believe in (Me);..." The woman at the well in John 4:28 said, to my mind, "Come, see a Man who told me all the things I have done; Could this One be the (Christ?)." And relating it to this thread, I offer this comparison through the parentheses. 1 Corinthians 2:12, "Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from (God), that we might know the things freely given to us by God." Here is my interpretation and translation of John 6:14, "When therefore the people saw the sign which He had performed, they said, "This One is of a truth the (Prophet), the One who is to come into the world." Greetings Ray, I confess I am not as diligent as you have been concerning capitalization, but I intentionally wrote it as "spirit." While I believe that apart from the activity of the Holy Spirit, we are powerless to worship God I also recognize the presence of the natural man and for this reason I did not capitalize spirit. For we(in our spirit) do worship God as we are enabled by the presence of the indwelling Spirit of Jesus Christ. Therefore we worship in spirit and and Truth. I fully recognize that it is the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ who testifies with my spirit, giving me access to God and assurance of my adoption." (Hebrews 10:15. Romans 8:16) By the way, God brought you specifically to mind today and I prayed for you. (Even before I got this reply!) May The Lord bless you as you continue to seek His face. Mommapbs |

Hi Mommapbs, I appreciate your prayers in the past and would like your continued support (even though I give you this reply). l) You have said that we worship God in our spirits. 2)You have also said that it is the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ who testifies with your spirit and has given you assurance of your adoption. 1) We worship God and walk with Him, not according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. Romans 8:5, "For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace." If we worship according to OUR spirits and to our supposed higher human standards then we are in danger of boasting before God. 1 Corinthians 1:26-29. Rather, we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the **Spirit who is from (God). 1 Cor 2:12. That is, His **Spirit who indwells you. Romans 8:12, "So then, brethren, we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh--for if you are living according to the flesh you must die; but if by the (Spirit) you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live." We have not received a spirit of slavery but rather a Spirit of adoption as sons. 2) Hebrews 10:15ff, "And the Holy (Spirit) ALSO bears witness to us; verse 20, we have "a new and living (Way); verse 29, and we do not want to insult "the (Spirit) of grace." The (Way) I have penciled in in my personal copy, and the parentheses are mine for comparison. Hebrews 9:28, "so (Christ) ALSO, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, shall appear a second time for salvation without reference to sin, to those who eagerly await Him." Hebrews 12:9, "Furthermore, we had earthly fathers to discipline us, and we respected them; shall we not much rather be subject to the (Father) of [our] spirits, and live?" Ephesians 2:17, "And 'He came and preached peace to you who were far away, and peace to those who were near,' for through Him we both have our access in one (Spirit) to the Father." These things are again why I would say "in Spirit and truth" for John 4:24. "The Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ" is not a phrase that we can reference; but that should be a new thread, I would think. Best wishes. From the heart, Ray |
