Greetings John and thanks for the answer. I am trying to understand what I now recognize as the Calvinism vs. Armeninism debate that seems to be on going here among the sisters and brothers. I grew up in a church that did not focus on "doctrine" but rather preached the Gospel of Jesus Christ. According to John's Gospel, God must be worshipped in spirit and in Truth (John 4:24)and I believe that only God can enable our worship of Him. Without His indwelling Spirit (Jesus is THE Truth in this)we are powerless to come before Him. However, since the Garden, I also believe that mankind has been given an opportunity to accept or reject God. And in this age, we have the blessed priviledge of accepting this free offer of salvation by fatih in Jesus Christ. To me, the sovereignty of God is linked to His omniscience and therefore God must know who will choose Him. "Many are called but few are chosen." represents (to me) that Christ died for all, and whosoever will may come. But God, in His foreknowledge, KNEW who would recieve Him, therefore He could indeed choose us before the foundation of the world. I am not Whitfied or Wesley, but this is how I reconcile the "doctrine" of election. God chose me because He knew I would choose Him. Since we have the "natural man" present in our mortal bodies, indeed there will be many spiritual realities that we cannot possible discern. Yet in Romans 1, God makes it clear (to me at least) that He has given natural man a "God awareness". The response to this God given awareness is what seals our eternal destiny. Perhaps we are at an impasse, on this, but you are still my brother in the Lord and I will respect your God given rights as a member of THE family! The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and started off. John 4:50 We are on a journey . . .I'm glad we will meet each other at the same destination. Blessings, Mommapbs |

Hi Mommapbs, You said: "I grew up in a church that did not focus on "doctrine" but rather preached the Gospel of Jesus Christ". What was your church's position on the Gospel? Did they say that the Bible is the infallible word of God? Thats doctrine. Was Christ lifted up and procaimed to be the only begotten Son of God? Doctrine again. Etc., etc,... Doctrine is simply the truths of God's word as understood and preached by your denomination's leadership. "According to John's Gospel, God must be worshipped in spirit and in Truth (John 4:24)and I believe that only God can enable our worship of Him. Without His indwelling Spirit (Jesus is THE Truth in this)we are powerless to come before Him. However, since the Garden, I also believe that mankind has been given an opportunity to accept or reject God. And in this age, we have the blessed priviledge of accepting this free offer of salvation by fatih in Jesus Christ Momma you say that this is what you believe. Why do you believe it? Where is it taught in the Bible? I'm not saying you are wrong but we all should be prepared to give Scriptural evidence for what we believe So you see Momma, whether you realized it or not, you have been absorbing doctrine since childhood. The important thing for both of us to remember is that doctrine is written by fallible men and is true only to the extent that it conforms to Scripture. Just like the Bereans of old, we must insist that what we are taught is based on Scripture before we will accept it as true. I've enjoyed our conversation and hope to dig into God's Word with you again. Brother John |
