1 | How can anyone be saved? | 1 Cor 2:14 | John Reformed | 60666
Dear Momapbs, You asked a series of questions. I will attempt to answer them as God gives me the grace to do so. 1. "If God is just AND merciful," If God did not temper His Justice with mercy then all would be damned to Hell. But, praise God, He has extended mercy to some. They are identified in Scripture as the elect. Rom 9:15 For He says to Moses, "I WILL HAVE MERCY ON WHOM I HAVE MERCY, AND I WILL HAVE COMPASSION ON WHOM I HAVE COMPASSION..." 2. "...what is His desire? " The Father's desire is to give to the Son all of those that He has chosen to give to Him. John 17:9 "I ask on their behalf; I do not ask on behalf of the world, but of those whom You have given Me; for they are Yours;" 3. "are you saying that OUR choice has already been made by God's choice (justice/mercy)? ". Precisely! Rom 9:18-20 So then He has mercy on whom He desires, and He hardens whom He desires. You will say to me then, "Why does He still find fault? For who resists His will?" On the contrary, who are you, O man, who answers back to God? The thing molded will not say to the molder, "Why did you make me like this," will it? 4. "What does salvation look like if this is so?". It will look exactly like God's eternal plan which He purposed from the beginning. 5."I too would wonder, "How can anyone be saved?"!! The answer is the same for all. God's grace which He extends to all those whom He draws and gives to Jesus His Son. Why is it so difficult for us to accept God's Soveriegn right to rule over His creation as He sees fit. Do we really want to trust ourselves for salvation rather than Him.? Unfortunately, I think the answer is YES. God Bless, John |

2 | How can anyone be saved? | 1 Cor 2:14 | Mommapbs | 60694
Greetings John! Thanks for the response. I'm really trying to understand your perspective and have thought much about our discussion. Sometimes I just become so overwhelmed and give up trying to reason it all out. You asked,"Do we really want to trust ourselves for salvation rather than Him.?" How do we do this? Are you saying that we draw a picture of what God's salvation is supposed to look like and then add our selves to the drawing? I believe the sovereignty of God is at the heart of everything. He is absolutely in control of all creation. (For this I am eternally, yes forever, grateful!) Yet, I confess, I am not exactly sure how it operates. I can see that you have thought much on this topic. I have not. May the Lord continue to instruct me, as I know so little of the riches of His glory! Blessings, Mommapbs |

3 | How can anyone be saved? | 1 Cor 2:14 | John Reformed | 60697
Dear Mommapbs, You said: I can see that you have thought much on this topic. I have Momma. I set out to disprove it. And ran smack dab up against His Word. I have agonized over Election verses Free Will and all that it implies. In the end I took comfort from the Word. Gen 18:25 "... Shall not the Judge of all the earth deal justly?" The Sovereignty of God and the responsibility of man are one of those questions that may have to wait til we're glorified...if then! In the meantime my acceptance of God's election of us has sure cleared up alot of verses that troubled me.(John 6., Rom 9 etc.) God Bless, John |
