John Once we are in Christ we are God's elect. Your right the Hebrew nation was chosen to bless all the nations of the world, by bringing forth a savior. In the Old Testament any gentile that that converted to Judaism could become part of the chosen. We are chose to have the blessings of God to experience eternal life, to rule and reign with Christ because we have came into salvation through a belief in Jesus Christ. Again the blood atoned for the sins of all, should not Jesus' sacrifice do as much? Elect is an adjective not a verb, When we become children of God through salvation God refers to us as his elect, His chosen, His children, His nation, His priest, His peculiar people. Calvin turned this meaning around and made election a verb or process that simply does not hold with the rest of the scripture. EdB |
