Subject: Did Jesus suffer in hell when he died? |
Bible Note: Meredith I have had the luxury of reading everyone else’s opinion and now I will offer mine. There are two realms the Physical of which we are most familiar and the Spiritual of which we are mostly ignorant. I think the bible reflects both in this situation. Upon death Jesus spiritually went to Hades (Abraham’s bosom) preached the “Good New” then lead captivity captive, he took those spirits home to heaven. At the same time he presented His blood upon the altar in heaven ( I read this as literal but it very well could have be symbolic). The reference in John with Mary is after Jesus’ resurrection and he is in the physical and Jesus was telling Mary to let go He had a lot to do before his physical ascension into heaven in forty days. I think the whole issue of what Jesus was saying to Mary was clear to the early believers and I don’t think it became a question until various false teachings took issue with Jesus’ resurrection. Since then everyone seems to want to put a different spin on what Jesus was really saying and meaning here. However the facts speak for themselves Jesus took the righteous spirits out of Abraham’s bosom and took them home to heaven. I think it safe to assume He too must have went to present them to the Father. Hebrews tell us Jesus literally or symbolically presented His blood upon the Altar which is in heaven then again He must have been there. We know Mary touched Him so it wasn’t an issue of Him having physical form. We know from Tim’s language study that he was really saying don’t hold me back I have much to do before my ascension. We know he ‘Physically’ ascended into heaven not until forty days later. So I think it is safe to conclude Jesus did ascend spiritually into heaven upon his death taking with Him the spirits that had previously died in righteousness and were in Abraham’s bosom awaiting their Messiah. While in Heaven Jesus literally or symbolically offered His blood upon the altar of God. Then He returned to earth and was united with His body and spoke to Mary foretelling of His physical ascension into heaven forty days into the future. EdB |
