Subject: Did Jesus suffer in hell when he died? |
Bible Note: Dear Gracefull, You asked: Did Jesus take upon Himself the sins of all mankind (past, present, and future)?" From the teaching found in John 10:11 ("I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.) I would have to say no: Jesus died for His people (sheep). "Was physical death the only penalty for the sin of Adam or did he die spiritually? If he died spiritually then why would God only require physical death of Jesus?" I reply that Jesus is God and God cannot die spiritualy. Because of His infinite capacity as God He was capable of paying the price of sin for all mankind (although, as I said, I hold to an atonement that is limeted to the elect). We do not need to understand that which God has not revealed in His Holy Word. Your conclusion that Christ died spiritualy is not found in Scripture. It is the product of mere human reasoning. If you would care to offer Scriptural evidence, I would prayerfuly consider it. John Reformed. |
