Subject: Did Jesus suffer in hell when he died? |
Bible Note: Gracefull: Herewith a quartet of brief rebuttals submitted in response to certain items in your various posts: [1] God reveals himself through Scripture (2 Tim. 3:16). The Holy Spirit indwells in the life of the regenerate believer to guide him into all truth, but Scripture does not support the teaching that He, the Holy Spirit, makes extra-biblical or special tailor-made revelations to individuals. He never acts except in perfect harmony with the revealed word of God, i.e., Scripture. [2] Orthodoxy is not the problem in splintered Christianity. False teaching is. A group and its leaders do not necessarily have to be branded as a cult in order to engage in false teaching. [3] Jesus' death on the cross was physical death. To say that He died spiritually is to deny His deity. The first 17 words of John's gospel are clear: Jesus is God: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." To assert that Jesus died spiritually sounds more like what Nietzche, who declared "God is dead", would have said, and not something professing Christians should be saying. [4] Some of the ideas being promulgated by 'word faith' deceivers are neither scriptural nor new. Forms of the same hare-brained ideas have been taught for centuries by various pagan and atheistic philosophers. They are an affront to the holy and sovereign God. --Hank |
