Bible Note: Greetings FTimA! If I may, the point that Brad is making is simply that not all statements in Scripture teach doctrine. Some verses simply record history, ect... For instance, Ps. 14:1 says, "The fool says in his heart, ??There is no God.? They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good." To take this statement of the fool and use it to teach that there is really no God would be a gross misuse of a verse of Scripture. In the same way, narrative statements don't necessarily mean that something should be done a certain way, they simply record what was done. Any value judgement about a particular action must be based upon declarative statements of Scripture. We are not baptized because Peter was baptized. We are baptized because Christ commanded us to be baptized. I hope this helps! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
