Subject: What is your understanding of the H.S.? |
Bible Note: "I accept the male gender being applied to the Holy Trinity but it wasn't necessary to do so in my earlier post." It is a good and proper thing to do, and it also helps remind us that when we are speaking of the Holy Spirit, we are speaking of God Himself, a being active in accomplishing the Father's will, and not some "substance." You wrote: "Would you please substantiate your list of Holy Spirit attributes with some scripture?" The largest treatments of the Spirit's work are John 14, John 16, and Romans 8. Ephesians 1:13 ff. describes the Spirit's role in our justification, and Galatians 5:16 ff. describes the role of the Spirit in the sanctification of the believer, and 1 Thessalonians 1:5 tells us that conversion comes by the word and Spirit of God. Lydia in Acts 16 had her heart "opened" by the Lord to pay attention to what Paul said. Again, it wasn't her "clever realization" of the truth, but the work of God the Holy Spirit in her heart. People really need to be careful not to give themselves too much credit for becoming Christians... --Joe! |
