Subject: "ONCE SAVED ALWAYS SAVED"!!! |
Bible Note: No, it wasn't true about the Pharisees that they had always been near to God. But that wasn't the point the parable was trying to make. That is what I was trying to say before. It is not an allegory, where everything represents a spiritual reality. Jesus is making one point: he is here to save sinners. That is the scriptural truth he is making plain. Let me illustrate the dangers of reading too much into the parables out of context. In Luke 11 we have a parable of a man banging on his neighbor's door to illustrate how we are to be persistent in praying to God. However, the man inside the house is telling the persistent neighbor not to bother him. The man on the outside definitely represents a praying person, but if we conclude that the person on the inside must be God, then we have a God who is reluctant to help us. Shall we draw that from the parable? Assuming your answer would be "no," then we need to be careful with parables to see precisely what point Jesus is responding to, or else we may come to false spiritual conclusions. In the case of the lost son, Jesus is illustrating the rejoicing of the Father over the lost, which is Christ's motivation for fellowshiping with them --Joe! |
