1 | Did Jesus suffer in hell when he died? | Luke 23:46 | Pastor Glenn | 65343
Hank, While God wants us to learn of Him, all of our wisdom and knowledge is always far shorter than His, so He is not impressed. Even the great CRI better make sure that they are not fighting God when they attack ministries: Acts 5:39 but if it is of God, you cannot overthrow it--lest you even be found to fight against God." Acts 23:9 Then there arose a loud outcry. And the scribes of the Pharisees' party arose and protested, saying, "We find no evil in this man; but if a spirit or an angel has spoken to him, let us not fight against God." Luke 10:21 In that hour Jesus rejoiced in the Spirit and said, "I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and revealed them to babes. Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight. Isaiah 55:8"For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways," says the LORD. 9"For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts. Psalm 2:2The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against the LORD and against His Anointed, saying, 3"Let us break Their bonds in pieces And cast away Their cords from us." 4He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The LORD shall hold them in derision. Psalm 59:8But You, O LORD, shall laugh at them; You shall have all the nations in derision. Pastor Glenn |

2 | Did Jesus suffer in hell when he died? | Luke 23:46 | Ray | 65383
Hi Pastor Glenn, Thank you for these Scriptures for they led me to notice a difference between the NASB and the NKJ versions which I study. I did not realize that the NASB does not include the phrase "let us not fight against God", in Acts 23:9. This difference was a "red light" for me to compare the verses. May I make some comments that might relate to your discussions. A comparison that could be made is between Acts 23:2-11 and Acts 5:40-42. 1) Acts 5:39 gives the topic: fighting against God. Acts 5:34-38 gives the criteria for deciding your battles. It talks about whether the apostles had a plan or action that was of God or whether it was a plan or action that would go away on its own without any action by the Council. If it was like the plan of the man Judas of Galilee (an appropriate name I would think from hindsight), it would be best to leave them alone for it would be overthrown because it also was a plan of men. Acts 5:39, "but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them; or else you may be found fighting against *God." 2) Acts 23:1, "And Paul, looking intently at the Council, said, "Brethren, I have lived my life with a perfectly good conscience before *God up to this day." When the high priest Ananias commanded someone to stike Paul on the mouth, Paul was led to speak out against him, not knowing that he was God's high priest. So in a sense he was fighting aginst God and so he said, "I was not aware, brethren, that he was high priest; for it is written, "You shall not speak evil of a ruler of your people." So he pursued a different argument. The bottom line is found in a comparison of 5:42 and 23:11. Acts 5:42, "And every day, in the temple from house to house, they kept right on teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ/. Acts 23:11, "But on the night immediately following, the Lord stood at his side and said, "Take courage; for as you have solemnly witnessed to My/ cause at Jerusalem, so you must witness to Rome also." We,too, must preach Jesus as the Christ/ and witness for His/ cause, proclaiming the word of God/ and preaching Jesus/ and the resurrection. The Psalms when compared offers the thought of who the "You" of Psalm 59 is. It suggests that we not try to cast away "Their" cords. We belong to Him and He is not at our beck and call.
