1 | What is your understanding of the H.S.? | Matt 22:37 | FTimA | 64188
Being a "spirit" I doubt that it possesses any gender. I understand the Holy Trinity. As for the rest of your note, could you please put it in layman's terms? I believe I understand this "catechism" to say that "faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen" (Heb 11:1).
2 | What is your understanding of the H.S.? | Matt 22:37 | Hank | 64322
FTimA: Biblical reasons for not referring to the Holy Spirit as "it": "I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you." [John 14:16,17] The Holy Spirit is called the Helper (Greek paraclete). See also John 14:26; 15:26 and 16:7. By the way, God is spirit too [John 4:24]. We don't refer to God the Father as 'it.' In like manner, neither do we refer to God the Holy Spirit nor God the Son as 'its'. We refer to things as 'its' but never to persons. --Hank

Out of respect, not only for God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, but also to you, I will refrain from using the pronoun 'it' when referring to the Holy Trinity.
