1 | "ONCE SAVED ALWAYS SAVED"!!! | Matt 22:37 | Reformer Joe | 30344
I was not misrepresenting the point of the parable. Rather I was showing that how, by following your example of trying to draw a spiritual inference from ever single aspect of the parable, that it is easy to come to false conclusions, as I hold that you have done with the parable of the lost son. What YOU keep ignoring in your posts is the context of the story and why Jesus told it. I will make you a deal, Art. If you can show me how your interpretation of the parable of the lost son addresses the situation which gave rise to it, I will accept it. Specifically, how does the "lost-saved-lost" scenario you present fit with this situation? "Now all the tax collectors and the sinners were coming near Him to listen to Him. Both the Pharisees and the scribes began to grumble, saying, "This man receives sinners and eats with them." So He told them this parable, saying...' --Luke 15:1-3 For those who think that salvation is a revolving door, I always wonder how they address verses like this as well... "For in the case of those who have once been enlightened and have tasted of the heavenly gift and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, and then have fallen away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance, since they again crucify to themselves the Son of God and put Him to open shame." --Hebrews 6:4-6 --Joe! |

2 | "ONCE SAVED ALWAYS SAVED"!!! | Matt 22:37 | Rom831 | 30347
It fits in the EXACT way the other two parables fit in. All three speak about saving the lost - the coin, the sheep, the son. You are picking on this one parable and ignoring the other two that address the same thing. They are all talking about saving the lost. This one just talks about that were saved, the lost then saved "again". Hebrews is easy. Can that person renew themselves? No. Can we renew them? No. Can God? Yes: Matt 19:26 And looking at them Jesus said to them, "With people this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." Look at those verses again though. It says in the case of those who HAVE BEEN partakers of the Holy Spirit and THEN have fallen away. It clearly says they CAN fall away. And no, we can't get them back, only God can. Bless...ArtS |

The last one is the only one that addresses a complaint identical to the one the Pharisees were making. Who is the elder brother supposed to represent in the context of the discourse between Jesus and the Pharisees? Or did he include an elder brother in his parable for no reason at all? --Joe! |
