1 | Did Jesus suffer in hell when he died? | Luke 23:46 | jaden | 48053
Did Jesus suffer in hell while he was dead for three days? The pastor of my church said he did, but my mother's pastor said he did not. I have not yet found the verse my pastor used. If you even know which verse I'm referring to, please respond with it. Thank you.
2 | Did Jesus suffer in hell when he died? | Luke 23:46 | EdB | 65819
Jaden No where in the Bible does it suggest hell as an atonement for sin. The punishment for sin is eternal damnation in the Lake of Fire. Atonement is the Blood, the Blood of the Lamb. In the Bible where it says Jesus ascended into hell it is referring to Hades the holding place for the dead before Christ. In Luke 16:19-31 we get a picture of this place. One side is called Abraham's bosom or paradise and the other is a hot dry place. On the Abraham's bosom side is the righteous that died looking for their redemption. In the hot dry side is those that rebelled against God. Jesus told the thief on the cross today you will be with me in paradise. When Jesus died the price for sin was paid that is why He exclaimed "it is finished". Jesus then went to Hades Abraham's bosom preached the Good news to those there and lead captivity captive to heaven. Eph 4:8. Today when someone dies believing in Jesus they go straight to Heaven. Paul told us in 2 Cor. 5:8. The hot dry side of Hades is still inhabited with those awaiting judgement at the Great White Throne Rev 20:20-15. Satan does not visit hell nor does he control it nor does he torture people there. Everyone in Hell awaits judgement in other words Satan has already won them. Satan wants nothing to do with Hell, his interest is upon this earth he seeks those he can kill destroy or steal from. Satan also visits heaven where he accuses the brethren. I hope this answers your question EdB |
