1 | Did Jesus suffer in hell when he died? | Luke 23:46 | gracefull | 65281
The word tempt means put God to a test. We are not to test God, we are to believe Him. Faith teachers teach to hold fast to the promise of God despite the circumstances. The teaching that we should 'always pray if it by thy will' is unscriptural. Often times prayer is not needed, but faith in His already given provision is needed. Did we pray "God save me if it be thy will" or did we pray Father forgive ma a sinner and save me. Thank you Father". Is that a demand? Is it a demand to say 'thank you Father for the salvation of my children according to your promise..' or do we pray instead " Father save my children if it be thy will?" People, we have an enemy named Satan and he is the on we tell to leave, he is the one we order out. Did not Jesus say "you go in my name (authority) and cast out the devil...etc? Did He say ask God to tell the devil to leave if it was His will? The issue her is not Faith teachers or metaphysics. it is that WE DO NOT REALIZE WHAT CHRIST DID ON THE CROSS!!!!!WE DO NOT UNDERSTAND OUR PROVISION FROM GOD THROUGH CHRIST JESUS OUR LORD!! God help us realize Jesus did not die to just provide us an eternal home in heaven after we die but He died to set us free from the powers of darkness HERE!!!! In Jesus Name |

Gracefull: Your statement: "The teaching that we should always pray 'if it be Thy will' is unscriptural".... Well, what does Jesus say about this? Please observe the opening words of His pattern prayer that He taught His disciples, the "Pater Noster" or "Lord's Prayer" contained in Matthew 6:9-13. Jesus opened with these words: "Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. YOUR WILL BE DONE on earth as it is in heaven..." If it is unnecessary for mortal man to pray that God's will be done, explain why our precious Lord Jesus prayed: "Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless, not My will, but Yours be done." [Luke 22:42]. Show me in Scripture even a hint that mortal man can force the eternal, sovereign God to do anything against His will. Yet you say it is "unscriptural" to pray that God's will be done? Prove it. Prove it. Prove it. .... On another note, you state: "Oftentimes prayer is not needed, but faith in His already given provision is needed." What Scripture did THAT come from? If prayer if is so optional, why did Jesus engage it in so frequently? Why are His people told to "pray without ceasing"? [1 Thess. 5:17] Why did Jesus even bother to teach His disciples how to pray? Please respond, and back up your arguments with scriptural proof, not ungrounded opinions. --Hank

Hank, You offer some wise words with regard to seeking Gods' will in our lives. God is NOT a "spiritual vending machine" for us to access. Rather, He is the sovereign God of the universe that I should seek with humility reverence. Let me add some verses that have spoken to my heart over the years. Both Hebrews 10:7 and 9 refer to Christ. 10:7 "Then I said, behold I come TO DO YOUR WILL, O GOD". 10:9 "Behold, I have come TO DO YOUR WILL." Whos' will? Gods! If Christ sought to do the Fathers will, why would we seek anything less? One of my favorite Proverbs is 3:5-6. When meditated on as a prayer, it is quite awesome: 1.Trust in the Lord with all your heart;(place our faith in Him); 2. Lean not on your own understanding;(seek His wisdom); 3. In ALL YOUR WAYS ACKNOWLEDGE HIM (seek His will); 4. And He will direct your paths. ( submitting to His guidence) Also, Proverbs 30:8 says "...give me neither poverty or riches; feed me with the food that is my portion..." Through prayer we most definitely should seek His will. Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |
