NASB | 1 John 2:2 and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 John 2:2 And He [that same Jesus] is the propitiation for our sins [the atoning sacrifice that holds back the wrath of God that would otherwise be directed at us because of our sinful nature--our worldliness, our lifestyle]; and not for ours alone, but also for [the sins of all believers throughout] the whole world. |
Subject: "a thorn in the side"? or Not? |
Bible Note: Let me answer this question with a number of questions. (1) In the first place, has the church ever saved anyone? (2) Did the Apostles conform to the times? Technology is good, but simplicity is better. It is so simple that even a babe (or an old person) can understand it. (3) If it takes conforming to the ways of the world to get them in to the church, what has the church become? Worldly? Has the salt not lost its savor? (4) What is the duty of the church? Surely this day and time, anyone who wants a bible can acquire one. I should think pew bibles could be an invitation for acquirement. Tell your church to leave them where they are, and forget them. Let the congregation know that they are there for those who haven’t one of their own. Chances are that they’ll be all gone in a few years anyway. Exhorting In Christ George |
