NASB | 1 John 2:2 and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 John 2:2 And He [that same Jesus] is the propitiation for our sins [the atoning sacrifice that holds back the wrath of God that would otherwise be directed at us because of our sinful nature--our worldliness, our lifestyle]; and not for ours alone, but also for [the sins of all believers throughout] the whole world. |
Subject: How do we preach the Gospel? |
Bible Note: John You said and I quote, "I think that science, logic and philosophy are good tools for the apologist, but not the evangelist. His tool is the Gospel." I think that says what I understood it to say. John God gave us a brain and reasoning, we should use these along with faith and trust. John I understand your approach to salvation and I even mentioned I found it interesting, if I believed as you do I would be saying what your saying also. However let facts speak, great evangelist do use science, logic, reasoning, alone with the gospel to share Jesus to the world. Paul himself did in Athens, he viewed all their statues to all their gods and realized he was fighting an uphill battle. Then he saw the statue to the unknown god and the Holy Spirit quickened him and said there is you entrance. He approached the people on something they undeerstood and knew. Their unknown God then he said I know Him let me tell you about him. Remember that didn't exist in scripture until he did it. If we trust in the Holy Spirit to lead us He will reveal the entrance into people for us. It may be nature, it may be history, it may be science, it may be logic what ever it is, it gives us the entrance to share the Gospel. I have never claimed anything as a substitute to scripture, I have merely said in the "real" world you may have to get the people to listen to you with something else before you use scripture. EdB |
