NASB | 1 John 2:2 and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 John 2:2 And He [that same Jesus] is the propitiation for our sins [the atoning sacrifice that holds back the wrath of God that would otherwise be directed at us because of our sinful nature--our worldliness, our lifestyle]; and not for ours alone, but also for [the sins of all believers throughout] the whole world. |
Subject: How do we preach the Gospel? |
Bible Note: Greetings George! I understand that the word 'apologitic' sounds like 'apology'. However, it is a Biblical word. Three uses in particular refer to the Gospel. Twice (Phil. 1:7 and 1:16) Paul uses the word 'apologia' to refer to his preaching of the Gospel. Then, Peter gives us this command in 1 Peter 3:15: "But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect," Here, the phrase 'to give an answer' is a translation of 'apologia'. So, all Christians are commanded to be apologists of the Gospel. :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
