NASB | 1 John 2:2 and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 John 2:2 And He [that same Jesus] is the propitiation for our sins [the atoning sacrifice that holds back the wrath of God that would otherwise be directed at us because of our sinful nature--our worldliness, our lifestyle]; and not for ours alone, but also for [the sins of all believers throughout] the whole world. |
Subject: "a thorn in the side"? or Not? |
Bible Note: "Do not be excessively righteous and do not be overly wise. Why should you ruin yourself? Do not be excessively wicked and do not be a fool. Why should you die before your time? It is good that you grasp one thing and also not let go of the other; for the one who fears God comes forth with both of them." (Ecc 7:16-18) "Do not be excessively righteous and do not be overly wise. Why should you ruin yourself? Do not be excessively wicked and do not be a fool. Why should you die before your time? It is good that you grasp one thing and also not let go of the other; for the one who fears God comes forth with both of them." (Ecc 7:16-18)" ------------- ---------------- I was simply addressing your note. When one “rocks the boat” they are often labeled “self righteous” or what you called “excessively righteous.” When one trys to do as the word instructs and correct a brother, that ones shortcomings are frequently thrown back at him or her, thus causing a division in the church, and defeating the original purpose of the individual who “rocked the boat.” This is not to say that there are not those who are “self righteous.
