Subject: How do we respond to war as Christians? |
Bible Note: Tim Your Question:"Where exactly in the Bible does it say that war is evil?" If you want to find it "word by word" you cannot find it I sure. But to defind it is evil maybe I could show you some passages I know that in the time of Old testament God through Moses commanded people of Israel to go to war in order to protect thier faith (JEWISH) because at that time only JEWISH people worship the true GOD. If we recall that when Babylons invaded Israel Daniel and other people of Israel force to worship Idols. There is the reason why Israel has to do battle against the nations that not worshiping the true God. But in the time of Jesus Christ we have now part of the commonwealth of Israel: Eph 2:12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world: We are now even Gentiles worshiping the same God. There are no reason to go to war against each other. If war is really not an evil act why Jesus Christ ordered us not to fight back? Instead He commanded to flee to mountains: Lu 21:20 ¶ And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh. Lu 21:21 Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto. He also taught soldier "to do violence to no man" meaning Jesus Christ dosn't want violence and war include many violence. Lu 3:14 And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely; and be content with your wages.1 2 He (Jesus) never encouarage anyone to go to war or to fighback. Some passages that will explain that war is evil. Jas 4:1 ¶ From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? Jas 4:2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. with that passages, if lusts desire to kill is still not evil for you, what can I say is I dont think so. Another example: Re 20:8 And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. Re 20:9 And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. Re 20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever. Gog and magog will do "battle" against to the beloved city. Battle is very the same as war. At Re 20:10 it was mentioned, "And the devil that deceived them" who decieved the gog and Magog to do war against the beloved city? THE DEVIL! so if the devil who decieve them to go to war meaning THE WAR IS EVIL in this particular time. I dont think if the devil decieve them and we call them HOLY? Thank you, Johnny |
