1 | How do we preach the Gospel? | 1 John 2:2 | GeorJoy | 100642 | ||
It is not that I have a low regard for the practice... I know that anyone who defends anything is considered an apologist. I would prefer to coin the word "explainist;" One who explains. For I make NO appologies for the Word, or the Divinity thereof. I will however gladly devote my life to its explination, for those less given to understanding and acceptance. I simply do not like the word, APOLOGIST. It implys, "to apologize for." Yet it is defined as follows 1 : systematic argumentative discourse in defense (as of a doctrine) 2 : a branch of theology devoted to the defense of the divine origin and authority of Christianity. Greetings George! I understand that the word 'apologitic' sounds like 'apology'. However, it is a Biblical word. Three uses in particular refer to the Gospel. Twice (Phil. 1:7 and 1:16) Paul uses the word 'apologia' to refer to his preaching of the Gospel. Then, Peter gives us this command in 1 Peter 3:15: "But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect," Here, the phrase 'to give an answer' is a translation of 'apologia'. So, all Christians are commanded to be apologists of the Gospel. :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
