1 | How do we preach the Gospel? | 1 John 2:2 | GeorJoy | 100475
Well Ed, once again I will have to agree with everything you say. The martyrs literally gave their lives for our Lord and what they believed in. I am certain that you and I would do the same without hesitation, yet even though the martyrs paid the ultimate price, there were many who continued in their disbelief. Likewise it is today. So like the martyrs, all we can do is to give our all, according to the gifts we have received. In Christ George |

2 | How do we preach the Gospel? | 1 John 2:2 | EdB | 100515
George I don’t have your confidence on how I might handle martyrdom. To me the men and women that watched their children being raped and then brutally pulled apart and facing horrendous deaths themselves yet all the while praying for their tormentors is something I hold in AWE I would never attempt to say, “Oh I’d do that too.” Our brand of Christianity today falls far short of early martyrs. In many cases just being a Christian was an automatic death sentence. Today we can’t people to church if the heat or air conditioning is broken. We live in a self centered society that has pushed that philosophy into the church. Many of us don't want to inconvenienced to man a soup kitchen let alone lay down our lives. You have to beg to get people to come to a prayer meeting can you imagine attendance if after the meeting all would be killed? That is why we (the church ) look no different than the world. We witness to the world with great words, but the world sees that the divorce rate in the church is higher than out, they see men and women claiming God will provide as the beg money on TV, they see Christians returning to work on Monday complaining just like they are, they see priest and preachers arrested for child abuse, fraud, sex crimes, you name it. They hear Christians talk of brotherly love and preferring others before themselves but they also see the church parking lot after service as each car is determined to beat the next out of the lot. They hear Christians speak of honesty and morals but they also hear us brag how we beat the IRS on the income tax, or we fraudulently secure building permits for church construction, or claim more charitable deductions than we gave, or we pass them at 80 with our I love Jesus bumper stickers. Or they get cut off by the car with a honk if you love Jesus bumper sticker. They see Christians take advantage of situations and do things they ought not do. Jesus called us to be salt and light to this world, we sit in our comfortable churches and say let us pray for the sinners, if we are faced with a seeker we lay the roman road of salvation on them and then we piously fold our hands and say it is now in God’s hands. What we need to do is start living a Christian life being the salt and light we were called to be. We would be shocked at the number of people that would seek us out to tell them about our Jesus. I preach! I’ll quit. EdB |

3 | How do we preach the Gospel? | 1 John 2:2 | GeorJoy | 100593
And again, I have to agree with you wholeheartedly Ed, yet Gal 6:9 And let us not be weary in well-doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. It is easy to become discouraged my dear Brother. We both know that what you have described has already been written. The only way I can overcome, or at the very least contain such discouragement as exuded in your post is to "try" imagining the discouragement our Lord must have felt when the very people He had healed, ministered to, and those who had even witnessed His miracles, condemned him to die. Yet you know what He said on the cross. I pray that I could forgive them, but I doubt myself. It's all about faith.!.!.! Rom 14:22 Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself.... "Perhaps this verse is a little out of context here, but I think this portion fits." They can kill, rape and distroy the flesh, but WE are not of the flesh!!! We know that our and our loved ones mortal flesh is only a passing thing. As I said, I am sure that you or I would give our lives for what we believe. As to what either of us would do under the circumstances you depict, only our Lord knows. As He knows all, and has since before time, He knows our hearts and the sorrow we share. For what is, has been. Our sorrow is only for a moment. Imagine His. Mat 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. I was once told that the closer we are to the Father, the more we think like Him and see things in a Godly light. In Christ George |

4 | How do we preach the Gospel? | 1 John 2:2 | EdB | 100607
George Believe me it is not discouragement you sense but frustration. Chrsitians keep reading the bible but doing what they justify. Their idea is sharing the gospel is telling someone they need to go to chruch. there idea of a good sermon is one that entertained not changed their lives. Their idea of doing something for Christ is dropping a few buck in the offering plate. Sharing the gospel is giving yourself to others, living a life holy and pure before the world, and sharing Christ's love with those around you. EdB |

Ed, your thoughts and frustration are mine... When I go to church today and look on the pulpit and surrounding area, the first word that comes to mind is "performance." There is rarely if ever an "altar call." I am constantly searching for a church that does more than just "feed the flock." If only the flock were as fat Spiritually as "we" are physically!!! Our Lord didn't come for the sake of the saved. He came for the sake of the sinner. Once again, what you have written has already been written. In Christ George |

6 | How do we preach the Gospel? | 1 John 2:2 | DAIRYLEADER5 | 100654
Hi Georjoy, Ive looked at this thread and want to add my thoughts, As a preacher and evangelist, I learned a long time ago that preachers dont preach, the Holy Ghost uses ministers as a mouth piece to deliver the message. My self, after prayer, the spirit gives me what to read from the Bible and then after I read the verses to the congregation, I wait on the Spirit to take over. The Apostile Paul says it best, I know nothing except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. Thats how we preach. No man preaches unless hes called. And I agree with you there are not enought preachers, preaching salvation,we hafe to go after the lost. My thoughts. DL5
7 | How do we preach the Gospel? | 1 John 2:2 | GeorJoy | 100671
I am not a preacher or teacher. I hope to be a teacher in a bible college when I receive my degree at this late point in life. I am still in the process of perfecting my calling, whatever it may be, but you have just described what often happens to me. I had never been able to put it into words. What has happened this very day on this very forum. The Spirit has, and does regularly show me answers to questions that I have yet to formulate. The Spirit showed me through my studies that though people generally don’t like it, I am an exhorter, and that (though I was beginning to believe that it was a curse,) this is one of the gifts of the spirit. I know that there are many rough edges left on this stone, but that one day they will all be smoothed out, and that one day I will be placed in the church where Jesus is truly the foundation. Exhorting In Christ George |

9 | How do we preach the Gospel? | 1 John 2:2 | GeorJoy | 100682
Thank you dear brother. I am trying to be patient and prepair. This old sponge got hard through the years. Now the living water has softened it, and I so despirately need to spread that water. Patience is not one of my greater virtues, but time will tell. Through the Spirit, I have learned so much in so little time. Primarily, I have learned to listen. I just don't want (not to hear) when that call is made. In Christ George |

Hi george, the scripture tells us to add patience to our faith ect., I know that was one thing I ask God for a long time ago and recieved it. There was a price I had to pay but it was worth it. Some one will probably take that statement wrong but thats ok. As far as age dont let your age stop you from fulfilling your hearts desires, I dont, we old horses will die when its time not before. Write me anytime if nothing but to talk at Dairyleader52000@yahoo.com. Im around somewhere. DL5
