1 | How do we respond to war as Christians? | Deut 7:2 | coop1 | 23663
Thank you for your confirmation Johnny...it feels good to be confirmed. I guess as human beings we need that...but we also need spiritual confirmation, especially in such trying times. My next question than is: How do we respond, as Christians, to our current war time situation? The entire country is backing our governments actions. While we must adhere to the laws of our land, and support them through prayer for God's guidance and intervention...how do we discourage this spirit of vengeful power among our family, friends and countrymen; without appearing like just another radical religious group? It as though in these times, the very Truth spoken aloud...feeds the fire, God forbid. It very easily becomes twisted and turned by an unbeliever. Even among the believers, some seem to be overcome with this spirit, and argue some of the same, earthly points and lean toward being "for" this war. "Forgive me Lord if this question comes from lack of faith." |

2 | How do we respond to war as Christians? | Deut 7:2 | Martha | 23678
We are Christians and we are supposed to follow Jesus Christ footsteps. Jesus did not want to go to war with the Romans and he said: "You have heard that it was said, 'you shall love thy neighbor and hate your enemy.' "But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, "that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. "For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? "And if you greet your brethen only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so? "Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect." Matthew 5:43-48. We ought to do better and more than the rest of the world, we are to shine as the light of the world and do good not evil. War is evil. |

3 | How do we respond to war as Christians? | Deut 7:2 | Morant61 | 23687
Greetings Martha! Where exactly in the Bible does it say that war is evil? The reason I ask is because this is a common assumption, but it isn't based on Scripture. We can honestly debate whether or not war is approriate, but the simple fact that God commanded wars in the Old Testament makes it clear that war is not inherently evil. Even in the New Testament, there is no command to never go to war. While I agree with you that on a personal relational level we ought to love and be patient. There does seem to be justification on a national level for war, especially in self-defense. For instance, suppose that the current terroist groups were successful in their call for a Holy War against America. Don't you think that it would be justified to defend our nation against those who would come in and force us to worship their way? I look forward to hearing from you! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Hello Tim, I am coop 1b, the author of the letter that you responded too. In answering your question, who said war was evil...I suggest that you read the original response to this letter by jipangilinan, "De 7:2 And when the Lord thy God shall..." In that response, Johnny sums up the issue of war rather well, recommending Luke 3:14...Luke 21:20-21...Eph. 2:12...Eph 6:11-17...1Ti 5:8...2Ti 2:34 Our war as Christians is a spiritual war...with the principalities of darkness, not with flesh and blood. Since Jesus, we live under Grace, by faith. He taught us to love our enemy, and pray for those who spitefully use us. When they come to arrest Jesus, there was conflict between one of the disciples who raised a sword and smote the ear of one of the group that came to arrest Him. Jesus stopped this, saying..."put up thy sword, for those who live by the sword shall die by the sword, do you not think that I could call on my father and He would send me twelve legions of angels?" The point is....FAITH and TRUST in God. We must DO God's word, and put our faith and trust in Him to be loyaly to His promises. After all...isn't God more capable of relieving the world of terroism and of evil than all of our bombs collectively? Please never forget, if you are truly born again and the Spirit of God dwells in you, then through Jesus you have the power to tread on serpants...no bombs need. |

Sometimes...the best defense, is offense. coop1b
