1 | How do we open eyes to truth? | Deut 7:2 | charis | 24295 | ||
Dear Johnny, Please do not say that those who defend themselves or their country through military service are in the same category as the 'fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters' as you quoted from 1 Corinthians. I am truly offended that you would say this. Without the heroic efforts of many 'defenders' you could be living in the southern province of Japan! I'm sorry to be so crude, but it is very easy to denounce the military while living in a free country. The war on terrorism going on now is not a war of faith. It is a war against hate and violence. Those that die at the hands of terrorists are not martyrs or 'killed in their faith.' Their lives are stolen in wanton acts of cowardice and violence. To bring the murderers to justice is just that, justice. In Christ Jesus, charis |

Dear charis, My friend, I am concerned that you are veiwing this all from a very earthly stand point. You stated that this war is not a war of faith, it is a war of violence and hate. Please listen! This IS ultimately a war of faith! Violence and hate comes from the evil one! And while you may be right about it being easier to teach from a free country...it does not change the Truth no matter where you speak it from. Our entire purpose on this earth is to engage in a spiritual battle against evil. You cannot be so niave as to think we are here to only to work 20 years and retire in Florida! There is a divine purpose for our being here. Now that sin has entered into this world, our purpose is to combat that evil until the appointed time for sin to be cast away. We are soliders, engaged in a very REAL battle. Murder is a broad category spiritually speaking. If we hate or despise, we are guilty of a murderous heart...the same as if we had plowed a 747 into a building. That is why we are called to rise above and love even our enemies. And NO, it is not an easy call, but we have the power to do so through Jesus. Satan has only a certain amount of time, and he knows that. He is hard at work to decieve as many as he possibly can. He will do this through false religions, through war, through family, through miss laid loyalties...through any avenue he can. His whole tactic is trickery and deceit. To get God's people to strike out in anger and in battle is another one of his many tricks and to watch them justify their actions...well, I am sure he is beside himself with pleasure. Remember, he is our accuser...a big tattle tale! Anything we do against God, he is the first to point it out to our Father, with pleasure! Including, I believe...our desire to see our enemies suffer!- Which God clearly warned against. "Vengence is mine", saith the Lord. The evils that are commited against His people, will be avenged in the proper time by God Himself! It is not our place to judge the hearts of men. That is for God himself. Do we defend ourselves and take action for our protection? I see nothing wrong with bringing these men into confinement. We should arrest them and put them in a cage for the rest of their lives! But to openly plan and publicly carry out orders to KILL them...not really considering who else gets killed in the process...in my book is wrong and against the teachings of the bible. Once we do what we can do, imprisoning these men...the rest is up to God. He will be the final judge and issue justice for their sins...just like He will do with the rest of us. Deception is one of the main ways satan will decieve many in these end times. Jesus warned of it regularly. It comes in many forms. A "just cause", if not looked upon from a biblical stand point, is an ideal means of deception! "What more gives us the right to strike out and kill, than for the sake of justice"...I can almost see his clever grin as he whispers this to many. coop1 |

Dear coop! Are you accusing me of hate because I want to bring known terrorists to justice? I do not hate them at all! I do, however, despise and condemn their actions. War is not necessarily hatred of people, at least not in my case. I appreciate your concern for me, though :-) Yes, I do love my enemies. I also love the victims of senseless violence. I am afraid that social responsibility dictates that I bring such perpetrators to justice, including capital punishment, if warranted. You have said that you are in favor of capturing and caging evildoers. Has it occured to you that it is not very easy to do this? Such men would rather die, and in fact consider themselves heroes and martyrs for such a death. Im afraid that your plan won't work, though in theory it is desired. You seem to think my viewpoint is too earthly. I prefer the term practical. I see your thoughts as emotional or humanistic, but I'm sure that you consider them to be spiritual. :-) Blessings to you, and thanks to your son for serving his country! In Christ Jesus, charis |

I regret that we do not agree. I will serioulsy consider you opinion that my veiws are emotional...but if I were to let in to my fleshly desires, I would mostly agree with this war. I was always a kick-butt kind of person...I just do not believe this a a war we are called by God to fight. The definition of practical is; concerned with the application of knowledge to useful ends; rather than with theory. Now the definition of theory is; a mental veiwing; a speculative idea or plan as to how something might work. In reality, this is where we live at present time. Faith is the beleif in things not seen...or a theory in a certain regard...that what God says He will do, He will do. And no matter how you look at it, if we do what God says, there are promises and protections that come with that...in theory that is. We are to rely on God's understanding, not our own. if God says, paint our house bright orange...you know as a Christian that is what we should do. Even though it makes no sense to our PRACTICAL man...we should do it to gain the blessings of listening to God. Stepping out of the boat was not practical and yet it was safe because Jesus commanded it. We just have to let go and trust God...and i still say that if we abide in His word...(of which I can find no place that commands me to kill another person for any reason), I will be safe and any time that I am not...God must have a real good reason for letting me be unsafe. coop1 |
