1 | How do we open eyes to truth? | Deut 7:2 | Morant61 | 24386 | ||
Greetings Coop1! Herein lies our basic disagreement concerning the Bible: I don't believe that the Bible teaches that either war or killing is always wrong. The simple fact is that God COMMANDED Israel to go to war! Therefore, it cannot be evil in at least that instance. Thus, one cannot say that war is always wrong. Or, you are saying that God commanded Israel to do evil. God also commanded the deaths of people. Sometimes, He even commanded "innocent" women and children to be killed. We can disagree about when war is justified or not, but I simply don't see any Biblical argument that rules it all automatically. There is no verse which says, "War is always wrong, thou shalt never kill!" If there were such a verse, God Himself violated it! By the way, we are not bombing innocent children. We are bombing the soldiers of the Taliban who have choosen to back a terrorist organization that has and will continue to attack us unless they are stopped. Let's compare actions, shall we? 1) They bomb, with planes, the Trade Towers. In those towers, were thousands of people who were simply going to work. They had not done anything to the terorrists. They had not done anything to the Taliban. In fact, most of them probably had no clue who the Taliban were. But, 4,000 of them are now dead because an evil group decided that they could make a point by killing them. 2) We demanded that these murders be turned over for trial. The Taliban refused. Indeed, they support these terorrists (primarily because they receive their funding from these terorrists). So, we go in and take out the ability of the Taliban to do war and native Afghans are the ones who are fightening to overthrow a government, of foreigners, who came in 1996 and seized control. I don't think there is any comparison. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

The simple fact is that God COMMANDED Israel to go to war! Therefore, it cannot be evil in at least that instance. Thus, one cannot say that war is always wrong. Or, you are saying that God commanded Israel to do evil. Israel is a set apart nation. They are caused to be a stunbling block to all nations. God has his own agenda for them and ultimately it is for our good...the gentiles. And again, I remind you that these were happenings under the old covenant. Now, we live under Grace by Faith...not under law. God also commanded the deaths of people. Sometimes, He even commanded "innocent" women and children to be killed. Here I agree...innocent people will be killed for the sake of the plan of God and in Jesus name. "Thy will be done Lord, even though it may bring great sorrow to our earthly vessels." We can disagree about when war is justified or not, but I simply don't see any Biblical argument that rules it all automatically. There is no verse which says, "War is always wrong, thou shalt never kill!" If there were such a verse, God Himself violated it! Here we have a problem...because when I read, "Thou shalt not kill"...I do not see an "except for this reason or that" clause after it. There are no buts...just Thou shalt not kill. To further that, every move Jesus made cried out...take on not weakness, but meekness...turn the other cheek, love thine enemies, pray for those that use you..and basically taught us to take strength in the following of His teachings, through which we will be able to quinch ALL the firery darts of the wicked one. (Big and small) By the way, we are not bombing innocent children. We are bombing the soldiers of the Taliban who have choosen to back a terrorist organization that has and will continue to attack us unless they are stopped. I invite you to tour the Time.com 'essay in pictures page'. Please make it clear to the burnt children in Afganastan that we are not bombing them. And to those whose parents and loved ones have been killed. ) They bomb, with planes, the Trade Towers. In those towers, were thousands of people who were simply going to work. They had not done anything to the terorrists. They had not done anything to the Taliban. In fact, most of them probably had no clue who the Taliban were. But, 4,000 of them are now dead because an evil group decided that they could make a point by killing them. Do you actually think that I am not aware of this or condone it in any shape, form or fashion? Yes, they commited a terrible, violent act!!! They were driven by evil forces, whisperings and deceits of satan....which we are not going to overcome with the simple weapons of man. The evil behind those attacks will only be overcome through SPIRITUAL WARFARE, which includes following the word of God, relying on His understanding and trusting in His power! Oh, we may actually manage to kill Bin Laden the man...but do you think by the tactics that you are now backing, we will be able to rid the earth of the powers of darkness that drove him? Or will that spirit simply continue through someone else? Your honest opinion now... This to me-looks like it says: We forgot to ask God for His guidance and wisdom, we hastely relied on our own power and intellegence. Satan would not cooperate with us. So we engaged in a battle with him, naked of righteousness, using his own weapons of destuction, to further our own political gain. And the people around the area are being killed and oppressed from all sides, and don't know what to think or where to turn because there is no Truth being given them from anywhere. And while for a season, it may look as though they are coming out of oppression, without the One True God...they will be lost anyway. Why don't our leaders take this to them? If this is a war about justice issued by America, for the sake of God and what is right against "the evil doers"...where is our proclamation of such? I am sorry, I forgot, this is a "free" country and we may hurt someone's feelings if we tell the truth or put God in Government or forbid...teach another country under oppression why it is that they are actually oppressed. Honestly Tim, I do not see that much difference in the actions of our honorable plight and that of the terrorist. Death to a people is still death...wether it is instant or slow. A lie is a lie...wether it is sugar coated or outright. And to indirectly claim that we are going to save these people through any other means than spiritual guidance...is a lie. |

Greetings Coop1! So, your saying that it is always wrong to kill! Therefore, God commanded people to do evil! I don't buy it! But, you have to the right to believe what you want! But, you are dead wrong comparing the terorrists and the US of A. We are targeting people who intiated a war with us. We didn't just lob a bomb into a public school! They attacked us! They will continue to attack us if someone doesn't stop them! What if they got their hands on a nuke? If there was not difference between us and them, we would have simply erased the entire country! You make it sound like America is evil in and of itself. There are wicked people, but there are also good people as well. There are things which need changed, but there are also many good things as well. I just don't share your dim view of our country. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Like you said, we all have the right to our opinion, and I am trying to respect yours also. I guess we are truly at an impass, with little left to be said. I do not believe we are the nation God intended for us to be and we have become an evil nation. I believe there are "good people" in all the world. And for their sake, the terrible things to come will be shortened. But I do not see a distinguishable difference between our countries sins and that of other nations. To the contrary, we are worse because we have been blessed all the more, and have turned on our blessings. "To he who knows it is sin, it is sin". I still contend that our loyalties are better rested in our adopted family, the family of God. It wouldn't be the first time God called His own away from their earthly family. It is not unbiblical to turn away from your own country for God, ya' know? Our patriotism is admirable to a point, but when it goes beyond God's word...it becomes sin like anything else. Just another god for people to focus on. Another means for the enemy to pull us away from where our focus should be. It almost seems to me that America has a new god...itself. Where our faith, hope and strength now seem to rest. Thanksgiving just passed. The pilgrams, new to this land...rested their whole trust in God to pull them through...to cause rain, to cause bountiful crops, to heal the sick, to protect them from dangers. That is our roots...what our nation was born out of. Child like faith. Why should it be differnt now? In my opinion, America will not go unpunished. For our sins, she will suffer greatly I believe. Why can't we just own up to our sins and mistakes? Why can't we just turn back to our roots and give it all back to God? Aren't we suppose to remove the log from our own eye before we remove the stick from our brothers eye? The terrorist killed 6000 Americans on september 11, 2001. Americans kill thousands of innocent Americans every day through abortion. And thousands more Americans daily via street murders, robberies and rape. And still yet thousands more through greed, capitalism, oppression, drugs, poverty and social unrest. How can we judge any one with a track record like that...before at least having the courage to step up and say..."well, we been mess'n up! Let's get back to the basics, put God back into our hearts, our schools, our government and our lives." Then and only then...we will be able to stand justified, able to issue true justice. Only thing is...then, we would not have to defend ourselves, cause Almighty God would be doing it for us! coop1 |
