1 | How do we open eyes to truth? | Deut 7:2 | charis | 24237
Dear coop1, Greetings in Jesus' name! I am not 'for' war, and I really don't know of many that ARE! But I am 'for' justice and self-defence, and obeying the earthly authorities set over me by God. War IS ugly! So is terrorism, murderous fanatacism, drug-and/or-greed inspired violent crime, etc. You are assuming that these people have an ear to hear the Gospel. When a child is throwing a tantrum, he cannot hear love and reason. You must 'contain' this rage/selfish behavior, THEN talk. You can call this the equivalent of wrapping him in your arms! If you let a wild beast follow their 'instincts,' they continue the rampage until they are spent! Do you suggest that we allow these madmen to continue until they are spent? Perhaps you did not lose a friend or loved one to murder, therefore you are willing to allow it to happen again. We deal sometimes with truly crazy people! You cannot just say that they have 'diminished responsibility' because of their social environment. Friend, I disagree that we should 'turn the other cheek' toward insane violence and terrorism. Jesus was speaking of disputes among brethren, not about those bent on annihilation. I agree that we should share the Good News to all, and in order to do that with some, it requires 'containment,' especially if they vow to kill until their own death or the death of all of other faith (i.e. Christian). Your view is admirable, but not very practical. I cannot help thinking that you take your stand while being far away from the conflict. :-) Blessings and peace in Christ Jesus, charis |

2 | How do we open eyes to truth? | Deut 7:2 | jlpangilinan | 24249
Hi Chris, You have a very good discussion with coop1. My question to you now is where in the New Testament that you will depend your self if someone will kill you? Your argument is we are going to finish this terrorist do you beleived that as human being we can prevent this war? Is Jesus Christ commanded us to participated in the war? What Jesus Christ teaching if there are this kind of wars is: Lu 21:20 And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh. Lu 21:21 Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto. He is not commanded Christtian to go depend your self or to fight back but to flee to mountains. How could you explain this? Mt 16:25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. Please explain this. Christian life is not an easy task my friend, so please explain those passages that I quoted answer it with a passages support. Thank you, Mabuhay! God bless, Johnny |

3 | How do we open eyes to truth? | Deut 7:2 | charis | 24261
Dear Johnny, Greetings in Jesus' name! It is true that Jesus never commanded me to go to Afghanistan. But He did command me to submit to the earthly authority that HE placed over me. Also, he has placed a burden of wisdom and common sense upon me. Frankly, my friend, I won't even try to explain passages to you. I see that you have adequately explained them to yourself, and haven't shown much interest in the 'sum' of Scripture. Indeed, life in Christ is not easy. Sometimes, pacifism is simply the denial of practical reality. I am not 'for' war, and pray for a quick end to this conflict. But neither can I deny that if we leave things alone, we will soon see more terrorist violence. Fortunately, I am not in charge of things at a national level. I live at a 'local' level. The Bible clearly tells me to deal with sin with wisdom AND discipline. This I do in the church. I would no more allow sin to grow in the church than I would allow my family to be murdered before my very eyes. This is not revenge! It is just common sense. I do not preach an 'eye-for-an-eye.' But I do preach justice. Blessings and peace to you in Christ Jesus, charis |

Charis, my friend, if you could use a handshake of agreement with your general -- and I must say well-balanced -- views on the Christian's role in war and peace, I offer you mine. Blessings to you. --Hank
