Bible Note: Dear Parable, Thanks for your response! You said in answer to my question: "both are true" and Your support was Rom 10:10a and Eph 2:8. But, I must confess that I am perplexed by what you said. How is it that one may be able and unable at the same time? Rom 10:10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. But the Bible also says in Luke 6:45 "The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth what is good; and the evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth what is evil; for his mouth speaks from that which fills his heart. Given the undeniable truth that no man is good (God alone is good), and bearing Rom 10:10 and Luke 6:45 in mind, how is anyone able to believe unless God changes his heart first? I believe Paul addresses this in Eph 2:8 "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;" "saved...not of youselves"! God Bless, John |
