NASB | 1 John 2:2 and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 John 2:2 And He [that same Jesus] is the propitiation for our sins [the atoning sacrifice that holds back the wrath of God that would otherwise be directed at us because of our sinful nature--our worldliness, our lifestyle]; and not for ours alone, but also for [the sins of all believers throughout] the whole world. |

Bible Note: Greetings John! I know that there aren't any easy answers with this question. However, I doubt any of us would say that everyone in the Old Testament was lost because they never heard a preacher. :-) I'm not claiming that it would be a common occurance, but I do believe that someone who honestly seeks God will be found by God, even if they have never been exposed to the Bible. The key word here though is found "by" God. But, this topic is a good illustration of the differences between these two systems of thought. In Calvinism, the call is only to the elect. In Arminianism, the call is to all. We'll, I've got work to do! Talk to you later! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
