Bible Note: Janae Let me jump in for just a moment. There is very fine line here that seems to be getting lost. If we say “salvation is in the atonement” we would be correct and we know and scripture does say that very one that accepts Jesus Christ as the atonement for their sin is in fact saved. However if we say “physical healing is the in the atonement” we would be incorrect since again we know and scripture does not say every believer is healed. If we say “God heals” that would be correct since we know and scripture says God does heal. By saying healing is provided for in the atonement you taking something that may happen (healing) to something that always happens (salvation) and that is where the problem comes in. God has told us He is our Great Physician, scripture calls Him the God that healtheth thee. There is no doubt that God does heal. Also there is no doubt that because of the work of Jesus on the Cross that we will live one day sickness free. However that day has not arrived and to try to relate our situation today to the atonement actually casts doubt on the promises that the atonement does make. Let me say it this way, if both healing and salvation were in the atonement and we see some that come to Jesus never healed does that not put a shadow of doubt on our salvation also? It would and does! And that is why it is so important to say exactly with the Bible says. Our salvation is in the atonement but immediate physical healing is not. Again that is not to say healing does not occur it just says healing in this age was not promised to everyone that comes to Christ. A fine line but a line nevertheless. EdB |
